The Project

Let it be known that Systematization of the Thought is both an “idea” and a “project.” We have already brought the “idea” to the public attention by publishing the book, Düşüncenin Okullaşması. As to the “Project” we can briefly explain it as such: it aims at triumphing over the modernity after fighting a running battle with it in an ideological combat. In order to reach this aim, a ‘comparitive’ study between the two distinct fields, i.e. “Islam” and “Modernity”, will be done. In either one of two fields the published “ideological” materials will be determined and read critically. In this regard, the project participants is to be selected from “Islamists” who can take a critical approach to “modernity” for the very reason that the only group enabling to resist the ideological offensive coming from modernity in the Contemporary age is “Islamists.” Each participant will be required to specialize in a person, an event and also a concept within the framework of a comprehensive “list.” In this context, a participant will study in detail, for instance, on Abu Khanifa as a person, on the Conquest of Constantinople as an event, and on “worship” as a concept in the field of “Islam”; while the other participant will study in detail, for example, on Marx as a person, on French Revolution as an event, and on “freedom” as a concept in the field of “Modernity.” Later, all the conclusions reached by the participants will be submitted to the project manager so as to publish them either as a “book” or an “article.” The manager of the project will evaluate all of them, publish the ones deserving to be published, and make use of them to bring “the ultimate work” which will triumph over modernity into being. Some parts of these material will be published on the internet site of dusuncenin okullasmasi.com, too.

Each one of the work regarding the persons will include mainly the following 4 headings:

1. The biography of the person,
2. The views of the person and the critics of them,
3. The position or significance of the person in Muslim/Western thought,
4. The critics of the person’s views from the perspective of Systematization of the Thought.

In first heading, the life of the person will be examined in detail and such a way that the ideological and political stance of him/her will be represented in particular. In the second heading, all the views of the person and all the critics of them will be reflected to the text originally by examining the literature in its entirely.[1] In the third heading, significance of the person and his/her views in Muslim/Western thought will be evaluated. And in the fourth heading, the views of the person will be criticized from the perspective of Systematization of the Thought and with the criterion of “the truth.”

The work regarding the events will include the following headings:

1. The nature of the event,
2. The significance of the event in Muslim/Western Civilization,
3. The evaluation of the event in terms of Systematization of the Thought.

And, finally, the work respecting the concepts will include the following headings:

1. Etymological and semantic analysis,
2. The significance of the concept in Muslim/Western Thought,
3. The evaluation of the concept in terms of Systematization of the Thought.

This is the sum and substance of “the Project.” We would like to proclaim hereby that the task to defeat the modernity in this ideological combat falls to the whole Ummah. We humbly want to do something concrete in this matter. And we would like to frankly say that our doors are always open to “earnest” Islamists who want to join and make a contribution to the Project, and to those who proved himself/herself to be a learned and well-read Muslim and capable of thinking critically. In our opinion, Contemporary Muslim Thought could not reach yet the level of scholarly competence needed to triumph over modernity, and accordingly the “the Falsehood” prevails all over the world. However, Contemporary Muslim Thought has been evolving gradually and the course of proceeding remains positive. In order to complete the process, “the Thought” must be systematized. What we try to do by this Project is to make a humble contribution to the process of Systematization of the Thought.
